I remember sitting with my sisters and cousins around the campfire, talking about who was cute and the things we got away with. Thrilled to be away together, even though we saw each other every week at some family party. Our parents playing cards in someone's yellow cabin, and definitely not noticing the few beers that had gone missing.
I remember my first bass, boat rides, jumping off the big dock, The Adirondack & Magnum Stores, Pitkins, and The Black Bear.
I remember sneaking cigarettes in the showers, on the pitch black but star filled beach, and pretty much anywhere I could without getting caught by a parent, aunt, uncle or cousin. (yes, me- I was very rebellious!).
I remember burying time capsules by the "big rock", and looking for it a year later
I remember "Go", lots and lots of "Go"- and saying "go" so much that we'd get in fits of laughter and forget who's turn it was (maybe a game I'll explain in another post)
I remember waiting at the pay phone for "that call", from "that guy"- was the number 518-494-9944?

I remember roller blading down a big hill with my Oasis CD in my Walkman, being all reflective until I hit that dust patch as Liam Gallagher wailed on though the headphones telling me don't look back in anger or wondering how many special people change...
I can never forget my families' faces seeing me return covered in blood.

Schroon Lake.
I wish I had the old pictures too.
While it hasn't been every year, I am so glad to get to share this place with my kids.
Talk about a simple, good time.
All over again... campfires, swimming, bass, The Adirondack Store, Pitkins, the same "big rock", a new big dock but still seemingly hundreds of jumps, more boat rides.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. (no cigarettes, and probably an iPod now though)
No frills (but no tents either)
The magic of their faces at each little tradition being made.
And me feeling like a kid all over again, a little.

What a post! Such a special place for us too! The pay phone lollllll!!! We used to fight for time and call home with calling cards. The dark ages! Don't forget Stewarts Sundaes, aunt moe and I once got one before dinner and then after dinner!
We had a place similar to that. We went every summer.
Now it is closed. :o( I miss it so much.
