Sunday's at Tiffany's in Review

I so wanted to like this book!
Unfortunately it did not work out that way.
It was a book club pick, a light read for us busy working moms. I do appreciate that.

Here's the synopsis, according to wikepedia.com:

"Lonely little Jane's only friend was a handsome, funny, kind man named Michael. He was different: no one else could see him, or believe he existed beyond the realms of Jane's very creative imagination. The pair would talk from morning until night. As Jane grew older, though, the time came for Michael to leave Jane's side. Michael promised that every imaginary friend would be forgotten, but Jane can't forget him.
More than twenty years after Michael said goodbye, Jane catches a glimpse of that unforgotten face. Her heart pounding, she can't believe it is true - could it really be Michael? For this time Michael isn't just a fragment of her imagination. But will the path of true love be a smooth one? And will Jane get a happily ever after?"

So, take what you will from the description. For me I was immediately creeped out- I could not get past the whole girl has imaginary friend who somehow becomes human and they meet again in her adult years and **SPOILER ALERT** fall in love. It just did not sit right with me or catch my attention as an interesting idea. That being said, the book, if taken as it is, is simple and romantic. It has some humor and some areas where the protagonist is easily relatable and certainly likable. If you start it, it's not hard to finish it. However, there are a lot of light reads out there that are more enjoyable. I might recommend Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts, or Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout (which I am currently loving) if you want something with heart, that's easy to read, and refreshing.

I have a feeling this book will be a movie. I feel a migraine coming on in June 2011.... at a theater near you.
