Ladies and Gentlemen, It's the Muppet Show!

My kids are Muppet-a-holics.
This has been going on long before talk of the release of the newest movie.
So much so that they can act out Mahna Mahna to a tee, and jam their keyboards to the Muppet Show Theme ("It's time to play the music! It's time to light the lights,It's time to meet the Muppet's on the Muppet Show tonight"....remember 80's kids??). We've also ventured to Muppet Babies for a little more Jim Henson fun.
I have always found it neat that the things that entertained me can entertain them too. We're also big fans of Follow That Bird, my first VHS movie ever. I still remember my dad getting the VCR and renting the movie at that new movie place, Blockbuster. He left if for us, but failed to hook it up. This was the equivalent of torture, really.
I digress, So, naturally we rushed to the theater on opening day and saw the movie. I was mildly embarrassed and slightly proud that my kids were shouting out "there's Jason Segal" and "look! Amy Adams" after watching the trailer so many times. Adam's level of excitement was off the charts. Zachary did fairly well.
I have to say, I am not a movie person. I'm a TV watcher and a reader. That being said, I thought the movie rocked. It kept all the original elements and personalities, and also added some modern cool stuff. I promise you'll be elbowing your neighbor saying "remember him??" nostalgically.
Walter, the new Muppet, is a perfect addition to the Muppets. The musical numbers were just the right amount of catchy and funny. A little cheesy too, and it made it more fun. I was also thrilled beyond thrilled that Jason Segal remained fully and completely clothed during the entire movie. (A few months ago, After finally agreeing to watch a movie with my husband we chose Forgetting Sarah Marshall becuase we like Jason Segal in How I Met Your Mother. Let's just say that we saw wayyyy more of him that we'd ever have liked to. 'Nuff said.)
The movie was sweet, classic, and kid friendly. My five year old completely got it and reiterated the plot and quite a bit of the music to my sister when we got home. He also has not stopped singing "we built this city on rooooock and roooooooll" since we got home. Folks, he is going to be a rock star. Or at least be in a high school band, no doubt.
