They Love it as Much as I Did...

Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. Based on an early 70's children's book with Gift of the Magi themes, this adorable Jim Henson production and emmy nominated movie narrated by Kermit the Frog is a long standing family favorite of ours. A darling tale of the love of a mother and son, sacrifice, and holiday spirit is so nostalgic for me, it could almost make me cry. Seeing it every year as a child was a highlight of the holiday season.
Watching it as an adult and the fact that my kids LOVE it makes it all the better. Don't you love when you catch all the humor made for adults that you missed as a kid? If you know the movie you probably remember the opening song The One Bathing Suit that Your Grandma Otter Wore. Cute little tune, very sentimental sounding. But, let me tell you, if anyone wrote a song about me and my "generous silhouette" and that they used my bathing suit after I died to make curtains, handkerchiefs, and clothing for the poor boy would I be MAD.

And, The River Bottom Nightmare Band... classic. Hysterical. Best lyrics ever. "WE DON'T BRUSH OUR TEETH 'CUZ A TOOTHACHE HELPS US STAY MEAN" (yes, shouted). My 3 year old could not be fooled, his first response when he saw Chuck was "dat Cookie Monster". Give it a look and listen, see what you think. Muppet Wiki described them as "When not performing on stage, the band members enjoy breaking traffic laws, riding their snowmobiles, and destroying merchandise." Gotta love this.

Haven't seen it? You've got 6 days to get it and make it part of your families holiday tradition. (P.S.- it's now on Netflix).
