Special Knees

I've heard my five year old reference a little girl, who we will call Jenny, several times this year.  He eats lunch with her at the same table.  She's in a wheelchair of some sort, probably something that looks more like a stroller.  He's very sweetly said "Mom, Jenny eats with us.  She's a baby.", and things like "Mom, Jenny likes to eat a lot of applesauce and milk" and "Mom, Jenny has her own teacher all day, just for her".  Of course, as an adult you realize this is a child probably with multiple disabilities who he shares a lunch table with.  But, the cool thing is that he doesn't realize this. All he knows is that she's his lunch buddy.
Hence tonight's conversation between the boys, that sent me into the other room, half laughing, half melting at the simple sweetness.

Zachary: "You know Adam, Jenny is in my lunch and she's a baby."
Adam: "Why is there a baby in your school?"
Zachary: "Well she isn't a little baby, she's just a girl with special knees"
Adam: nodding
Me: (interjecting)"Zachary, what do you mean "special knees?"
Zachary: "Well she must have hurt her knees because she has to stay in a special chair.  She must have hurt them bad. But someday her knees will feel better"
Adam: "Yeah, I hope her knees get better"

Out of the mouths of babes... we see how the world should be...
